We came here on a quiet Monday evening, and I mean very quiet. From 7-8:30pm, we were the only ones eating, although there were a few other drinkers around. I believe it becomes a club at night, which would probably be more bustling. The food was fantastic – between £7-12 for a main, which is really not that much more than the microwaved stuff from Wetherspoons (yeugh). With a TasteCard, my boyfriend and I ordered two mains (a burger and burrito) with 2 beers and the bills only came to £14 – a right bargain! It almost feels like we've ripped them off! We will definitely be returning again (in fact, tomorrow). I'd recommend anyone looking to eat around this area to try this place – a definite hidden gem!

I totally agree with the reviewer below – I love love LOVE this place, and have been 6 times now since discovering it 8 months ago!!! Being Sichuanese, I often crave the mouth-numbing taste of spicy hotpot, and this place is by far the cheapest place to feast this desire. £12.50 for a buffet is an amazing price. Meat, seafood, veg, noodles… the options are varied and enough to satisfy most people's appetites. As I often go with westerners who cannot tolerate the spice so we opt for a half-half pot, where one side is just chicken broth and the other spicy. There is also a grill option which I've yet to try but have heard really positive things about it. Be warned, they charge £5 for every box of food you leave – and yes, I've seen the chef enforce this! Personally, I feel this is good practice for a buffet; if you can't finish, don't put it on your plate!

The most authentic Sichuanese cuisine I've ever tasted in this country – took me back to my childhood with the very first bite. Service is rather shoddy, slow and impatient. But if you can withstand that, you are sure to be in for a treat. Mouth-numbing flavours, layers of red chilli oil oozing at the top, you will have diners coughing all around you as the peppercorns attack their lungs as they would then to you. If you are brave enough to experience a real Sichuanese meal, then I would definitely point you toward this place. Not the cheapest Chinese restaurant I've ever been to, but by no means can it be counted as expensive. I'd say £12-15 per person is more than adequate enough for a filling dinner. Be warned that prices are at least 20% more expensive than suggested on their website! (Ma Po Tofu is £6.80 on the website and £7.20 when I arrived to pick it up!) There is also a hotpot restaurant to the left of the normal restaurant, which I've yet to try (as I visit another hotpot restaurant for half the price), but I imagine it would also be very good. The place is generally bustling and clearly a known haunt of the East Asian community – which I always take to be a good sign that it serves authentic cuisine. I myself was initially introduced to it through several Asian friends. In summary: fantastic food, improvable service, decent prices and a definite place to visit if you ever wondered what a volcano feels like in your mouth!
