Senior Events Manager

Reports to: Head of Marketing + Events
Location: Central London
Contract: 8-12 month maternity cover
Hours: Full time (plus some working outside normal office hours)

SquareMeal Publications, which includes, the SquareMeal restaurant and venue guides and magazines, and the Venues + Events Live exhibition, is looking to recruit a highly organised and motivated events manager to join its marketing and events team.

This is a very exciting opportunity for an exceptional events professional with meticulous attention to detail. A minimum of 5 years’ experience within corporate events and/or exhibitions is essential, along with the ability to hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment.

The senior events manager is responsible for the planning and delivery of Monomax’s varied portfolio of events across SquareMeal and Venues + Events, including a regular roster of restaurant and venue showcase events for readers, and with particular attention to Venues + Events Live, the award-winning, annual exhibition attended by over 7,000 event organisers.

The senior events manager is also responsible for organising the SquareMeal Tasting, an annual tasting event for 700 people which showcases over 50 fine wine, spirits and restaurant exhibitors.

The ideal candidate should possess the following attributes:

• A passion for social media
• A proven track record in implementing and managing large events
• Experience of working on large scale events or exhibitions
• Genuine passion for events – willing to go the extra mile to create a great impression
• Excellent project management, organisation, planning and coordination skills
• Quick thinker with exceptional problem-solving skills

• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

Responsibilities include:

• Organise all Monomax events from concept to completion
• Liaise with a variety of clients and partners including high-end restaurants, venues and luxury brands
• Work with internal stakeholders to ensure both client and business needs are met
• Build and maintain important relationships with clients and suppliers
• Co-ordinate complex event logistics
• Book, brief and manage all on site event temporary staff (up to 100 people at one time)
• Co-ordinate exhibition seminars, workshops, and masterclasses
• Plan exhibition signage, furniture, audio visual, and design elements
• Responsible for all exhibition feature logistics, to include equipment, stock, and timings
• Liaise with all areas of the business including marketing, editorial, sales and design
• Work with designers to create invitations for reader events
• Manage RSVPs for reader events
• Manage event budgets
• Post-event evaluation and de-brief
• Recruit and manage interns to assist during busy periods

Social Media Executive / Social Media Manager

SquareMeal Publications, which includes, the SquareMeal restaurant & venue guides, magazines, the Venues + Events Live exhibition and other events, is on the lookout for a highly engaged and motivated Social Media Manager to join its marketing team.

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for developing, managing and delivering an effective social media strategy across all SquareMeal social channels. This includes scheduling, creating, optimising and curating social content. All social activity should generate site traffic, brand interest, grow our communities and encourage conversation and engagement in creative and captivating ways.

To develop the SquareMeal brands further, we need someone who can consistently create high-quality social content to be pushed out across our branded pages.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing and monitoring all social activity and brand pages to the highest level
• Develop strong campaigns and execute the social strategy in line with business objectives
• Creation, supervision and strategic development of all social media accounts
• Community management, analysis and reporting
• Intelligently use paid social to boost reach and engagement
• Monitor editorial social posting across the business
• Manage social media marketing budget
• Run a comprehensive link-building programme targeting key external stakeholders
• Coordinate projects with clients, brands, agencies and your colleagues – your content will be seen by over 100k followers
• Run paid social campaigns in line with paid search campaigns
• Contribute to creative strategy for growth of the brand and social channels
• Creating and editing videos and images for use on our channels
• Work closely with marketing, editorial and commercial teams to support key objectives
• Manage blogger and Influencer programmes
• Handle redemptions from SquareMeal’s loyalty programme
• Assist with events including social media coverage, managing RSVPs and on-site


• Impeccable communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ideally from a journalistic background originally, the candidate should have a strong grasp of written communication, as well as spelling, punctuation and grammar, plus the ability to follow a style guide accurately
• Confident writer with the ability to ensure appropriate tone of voice is used across all channels
• Able to write engaging content with clear CTAs driving people to the website
• Familiar with social scheduling, monitoring and testing tools e.g. Hootsuite, Buffer, Schedugram is essential
• Clear understanding of how to use social media as a marketing tool
• Creative thinker with the ability to come up with new ideas to engage our audiences
• Commercially savvy – proficient at using social channels to support activations
• Be aware of new content and stories and think of ways to successfully push these out via social Be aware of trending # (and trends in general) and think of ways to tie these into social content
• Must be able to excite less tech savvy members of the team and hold other content posters to account, not letting people get away with bad posts/copy
• Team player ready to muck in and help across all parts of the business
• The candidate must live and breathe social, both inside and outside work
• A working knowledge of Photoshop, Final Cut Pro or other video editing tools is desirable
• Produce Instagram stories linking to daily content
• ‘Reinvent’ the Facebook pages and think of ways to get better engagement on this platform
• Responsible for scheduling weekend/generic content based on which posts performed best earlier in the week

Restaurant Account Manager

We are looking for a Restaurant Account Manager to join our growing restaurant sales team to sell in the Restaurant Partnership package plus other marketing opportunities to restaurants in London and across the UK.

SquareMeal is the UK’s biggest online Restaurant + Bar guide, providing restaurants with bookings worth £150million annually.

The Restaurant Partnership package offers restaurants increased visibility, an enhanced listing online as well as many other marketing and promotional benefits in order to increase covers and offer brand exposure to our high spending food loving audience.

What the role entails:

• Sales: Selling the Restaurant Partnership Package to UK restaurants. This involves selling both over the telephone and via meetings, as well as pitching extra sales opportunities where relevant.
• Meeting and exceeding monthly and quarterly sales targets
• Account handling: Account handling and building excellent relationships with restaurant clients, ensuring you identify relevant marketing and sales opportunities throughout the year for your clients.
• Uploading digital content to client restaurant pages.
• Offering on-going support to restaurant clients where suitable, arranging catch up calls and meetings to go over stats, figures and renewals
• Sourcing offers and promotions from the restaurants when appropriate
• Offering support to the wider SquareMeal office, working at PA events, the SquareMeal Tasting and our Venues + Events show.

Desired Skills and Experience

A genuine passion and enthusiasm is essential for you to gain the most from your placement, along with a willingness to learn, and a high level of commitment.

Working entitlement

If you are looking for an Internship within the UK you must have an EEA passport and/or UK work visa. If you do not have full working entitlement you will need to arrange the appropriate documentation to allow you to be employed in the UK. When you start the internship you will be asked to provide evidence of your right to work in the UK.

Things to Consider

• Our internships provide unpaid work experience.
• Every internship runs for a maximum of 2 months. 
• There are no guarantees of permanent employment on completion of the internship period. However, interns are welcome to apply for any available vacancies during/ after their time with us.
• SquareMeal will be responsible for the daily travel expenses incurred while traveling to and from the SquareMeal offices (within a 25 mile radius of London) or SquareMeal related events.
