Minutes from the City, Clerkenwell is loaded with restaurants that feature great private dining rooms. It’s a top spot, then, for breakfast meetings, working lunches and entertaining clients over dinner. Here are a few of our faves…
1. Bird of Smithfield, EC1
Flexible second-floor space, seating up to 40 diners. There’s also plenty of room for pre-dinner drinks and AV facilities. If you fancy entertaining your guests, there’s also a vintage vinyl player.
2. Bleeding Heart, EC1
This Gallic-leaning restaurant houses a series of atmospheric private dining rooms, including the Wine Cellar, with its collection of vinous memorabilia, and the slightly more intimate Parlour.
3. The Chancery
Four spaces are available here for private hire. One has its own entrance, meaning lawyers who do their bidding in the area can bank on discretion. The newest of the spaces has its own kitchen.
4. Sosharu, EC1
This restaurant’s private dining space, Kisetsu, features its own kitchen that knocks up fine dining Japanese dishes from a menu that changes daily.
5. St John, EC
Fergus Henderson’s pioneering nose-to-tail ‘carnivore’s carnival’ is always worth a visit. For groups, there’s the Private Dining Room, which was once a former loading bay.
6. Smiths of Smithfield, EC1
Blasted brick walls and post-industrial furnishings gives the restaurant’s two first-floor dining rooms a New York vibe. Located opposite Smithfield Market, it does a roaring trade in flesh, too.
7. The Modern Pantry, Clerkenwell, EC1
Choose this elegant townhouse’s Foundry Room for intimate get-togethers or combine its North and South dining rooms for a larger gathering of up to 60 guests.
