Some of our best chefs in the land happen to be female. Think Helene Darroze at the Connaught, Clare Smyth at Core or Angela Hartnett at Murano. Equally respected is Northcote's Lisa Goodwin-Allen, the latest SquareMeal Female Chef of the Year, sponsored by Champagne Ayala. While a chef’s gender shouldn’t be a factor or even feature as a descriptor, the sad fact, according to the latest Office for National Statistics data, is that only 17% of chef positions in the UK were held by women in 2017. This minority situation is why we take great pride in shining a light on the restaurants that are headed up by these exceptional female talents and beacons of inspiration.
