SquareMeal Review of
The Senate Cambridge
Cambridge stalwart Auntie’s Tea Room has reinvented itself as hipster hangout The Senate with a totally on-trend refurb mixing rich blue walls, Alhambra-style tiles, tan leather and industrial lighting. It’s a perfect bar for evening drinks, courtesy of decent cocktails, a wine list that includes gems such as Château Musar, and amazing views past St Mary’s Church to the Senate House itself. The menu has a magpie mix of European influences, but is rather brief (fussy eaters may find it a bit of a challenge). A couple of tapas-style sharing plates, of the calamari and charcuterie ilk, rub shoulders with soup and more substantial dishes such as slow-roast beef cheeks. For those who might mourn the old café, don’t worry: the venue remains under the same family ownership and will still make a great daytime mid-shop pit stop for lunchtime sandwiches and coffee.
