Steve Allen apologises to Tilly Ramsay after calling her a ‘chubby little thing’

Radio host Steve Allen has now privately apologised to Tilly Ramsey, daughter of Gordon Ramsay, after publicly calling her a ‘chubby little thing’ live on air. Apparently, he got in touch with her last week to issue an apology after receiving calls to quit.

LBC’s Steve Allen made a string of derogatory comments towards the Strictly Come Dancing star. After reading out a listener's comment that Ramsay is also taking part in Celebrity MasterChef Australia as well as Strictly, he responded: ‘Is she? Well, she can't blimming well dance, I'm bored with her already.’’

He then went on to say: "She's a chubby little thing, isn't she? Have you noticed? Probably her dad's cooking, I should imagine."

Ramsay posted a statement on Instagram responding to Allen's comments, saying she tries: ‘'not to read and listen to comments and negativity’’ but that ''being called out on a national radio station by a 67-year-old man is a step too far […] I draw the line at commenting on my appearance’’.

The 19-year-old said that she’s had to face comments on her appearance in the past but asks people to ''please remember that words can hurt’’.

‘’I won’t tolerate people who that think it’s okay to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone’s weight or appearance’’.

Following the post to her 1 million Instagram followers, Ramsay received a wealth of support from fellow Strictly contestants, celebrities and followers on social media. Former Bake Off star John Whaite, who’s also competing in the dance competition this year, commented on her Instagram post: ‘’He’s a piece of old sandpaper love, worn and used and has nothing to offer the world. And his vicious scratching has only left you polished and more fabulous. Love you.’’

While ex-McFly band member Tom Fletcher replied: ‘’What the actual hell?! Tilly you are absolutely BEAUTIFUL and don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise.’’.
