Luxury Knightsbridge department store Harrods has decided to part ways with four of its biggest chef collaborators: Gordon Ramsay, Tom Kerridge, Calum Franklin, and Masayoshi ‘Masa’ Takayama. The store says that it will be focusing on in-house dining concepts instead.
The earliest changes are likely to happen as soon as the end of August. Harrods says that Sushi by Masa, Kerridge’s Fish and Chips, and Calum Franklin at the Georgian, will all close by the end of the month.
Some of these closures are more surprising than others. Takayama is about to open a full restaurant concept, Tobi Masa, in the soon-to-open Chancery Rosewood Hotel in Grosvenor Square, which would perhaps have made Sushi by Masa - set in Harrods Dining Hall - surplus to requirements. By contrast, Calum Franklin at the Georgian opened in November 2024 with considerable fanfare, meaning it only survived a grand total of nine months.
Kerridge’s Fish and Chips has had a longer tenure, opening back in 2021, but has regularly drawn the ire of customers and critics for its controversial £37 fish and chips price tag. Meanwhile, Gordon Ramsay Burger is set to close in January 2026, marking the end of an era for Ramsay’s tie-in with the famous department store.
Harrods is adapting its offerings due to a change in customer demand, preferences, and industry trends, say department store bosses.
'Harrods has a rich history of serving the finest food and drink and we are constantly progressing our dining offerings,’ said Michael Ward, managing director at Harrods, in an interview with The Caterer.
'We'd like to thank all the fantastic chefs that we have been very privileged to work with over the last few years for their partnership. Together we have served many thousands of diners from shoppers to families and friends celebrating special moments in our restaurants.'
Although celebrity chefs are on the way out, Harrods will still be home to a number of outside brands, including Pasta Evangelists, and Neha Mishra’s Kinoya Ramen.
