“Great authentic Chinese food”, proclaims a fan of this well-regarded neighbourhood restaurant on the ground floor of a block of new-build flats not far from Colindale tube station. Inside, contemporary furnishings, smartly laid tables and a dramatic chandelier set the mood, while the sizeable menu is rooted in the Cantonese tradition – with a few detours beyond regional borders. An impressive line-up of dim sum stretches all the way from seafood and mango rolls, deep-fried beancurd with garlic and peppercorn salt, mixed meat and peanut dumplings to pan-fried turnip cakes with Chinese sausage, congees with preserved egg and gooey custard buns. Otherwise, plunder the full menu for the likes of braised pork hock in oyster sauce, grilled eel with honey sauce or salted shredded chicken with jellyfish – as well as sesame prawn toasts, aromatic crispy duck, stir-fried beef with broccoli and other high-street standbys. You can also venture further afield for Malaysian satays, Japanese egg tofu and other more esoteric specialities.
