The Botanist (afternoon tea)

SquareMeal Review of The Botanist (afternoon tea)

When the ladies who lunch have gone home for a lie down, the ladies who take tea start to arrive at The Botanist. The Sloane Square location (handy for the Royal Court) is a dream, and it’s good to know you can pop in for a scone or a plate of smoked salmon and soda bread if time is of the essence. The Botanist’s traditional tea (£18) brings finger sandwiches, cakes, scones and tea; add £7 for a glass of Joseph Perrier Champagne. All the teas are by Jing (prestigious supplier to the Fat Duck et al), and there are unusual picks such as mango alongside Earl Grey and the like. The Botanist is part of the Ed and Tom Martin’s gastropub empire, but you wouldn’t know it – the cream leather banquettes, grand lights and vaguely Scandi design scheme are pure Belgravia chic.
