SquareMeal Review of
After starring on Ramsay’s Best Restaurant in 2010 – beating Mayfair powerhouse Momo in reaching the quarter-final – this 12-year-old North African restaurant has had a new lease of life. Always
popular among locals, Azou now attracts punters from afar into its exotic dining room, where Berber carpets & ochre walls attempt to evoke backstreet Marrakech. The food scores highly, &
the menu is replete with authentic Algerian, Moroccan & Tunisian dishes. Start with bourek (pastry filled with minced lamb & herbs) or North African fish soup, before choosing from a host
of top-notch couscous & tagine dishes such as tagine rommane (chicken breast in a tangy pomegranate sauce, almonds & raisins). The pithy dessert menu contains sticky pastries, sorbets &
ice creams, & the wine list is similarly short & inexpensive.
