Spanish cuisine has really made its mark all over the capital, with the arrival of a host of top Spanish restaurants and tapas bars. And the perfect accompaniment? Spanish wine.
If you thought that Spanish wines just meant Rioja and Cava, then think again: the country is bursting with fantastic wines, from cool, fresh whites like Albariño, Verdejo and Godello, to
fruit-and-spice-laden reds from the likes of Toro, Ribera del Duero and Priorat. Speaking on behalf of Wines from Spain, Maria José Sevilla is excited by the wave of popularity sweeping across the
UK for Spanish wines. ‘Consumers are voting with their palates and finding incredible diversity and exceptional quality in Spain.’
Square Meal, in conjunction with generic body Wines from Spain, is offering its readers the best of both worlds at its Spanish food and wine tasting event, at Old Billingsgate on 10 March, which
has become one of the highlights of the London foodie calendar. More than 120 wines will available to taste, and don’t worry about not finding them until you’re next on holiday – all the wines on
show are available in the UK market.
Even better, some of the capital’s top Spanish restaurants – including Brindisa Tapas Kitchens,
Ibérica Food & Culture, Camino, Barrica, Morito (part of the Moro group), Durius River Café and El
Pirata – will be serving signature tapas-style dishes throughout the evening. In addition, a further array of tapas and jamón will be available. Live Spanish music and moody lighting will
add authentic touches, too.
If you’re new to Spanish wine, Sunday Telegraph columnist, Susy Atkins, will be hosting ‘wine walks’, where visitors can learn what the country has to offer.
Tickets, which cost £22, are available by visiting here, which includes:
- a glass of premium Cava on arrival
