Starting on 11 May, Soho restaurant Polpo and wine experts Wine Chap will be hosting a monthly EnoClub night, an event focusing on the wines of different North Italian regions and pairing them with a dinner of the restaurant’s signature
Venetian food. Details of each of the events and their themes are below.
11 May – Piemonte
Arguably the oldest and greatest wine region in the country, the emphasis is on the Nebbiolo grape, and its most famous incarnations as Barbaresco and Barolo.
15 June – Veneto & Trentino
After a Prosecco aperitivo guests will explore the indigenous whites of Trentino and the region’s iconic San Leonardo red, before delving into the ripasso and Amarone wines of Valpolicella.
13 July – Alto Adige
Not heard of the Lagrein grape? Unaware that Gewurztraminer originates here? Or the country’s finest Pinot Noir? Get ready.
10 August – Friuli
Italy’s finest whites have long come from its far north-east corner on the Slovenian border, but Friuli’s native red varietals are now making a real name for themselves among critics as some of the
best in the country.
The events are priced at £35 and start at 7pm. For more information or to book, call 07521 176 287.
