These are exciting times for Portuguese wine: critics are increasingly recognising that the country is producing impressive modern wines whose unique character, value for money and quality really
make them stand out.
And Portuguese wines are set to take the UK by storm this June, when three tasting sessions will showcase 50 of the country’s best wines – all available for sampling. Selected by Master of Wine
Julia Harding, who travelled the length and breadth of Portugal to come up with her selection, 50 Great Wines of Portugal will offer something for every wine lover.
The wines available to sample at the event are a closely guarded secret, but guests will certainly have the opportunity to taste classic Portuguese wines – from whites such as vinho verde and
Alvarinho, to reds from the Douro and further afield, plus sweeties from port to Madeira – and a few extra-special bottles. Meanwhile, Portuguese delicacies in the shape of skewered king prawns
with lemon-and-garlic mayonnaise, potato bread topped with piri-piri salmon, or salt-cod fishcakes will keep hunger at bay.
These unmissable events are taking place in several key UK locations, starting with London before moving on to Edinburgh and Manchester. See the full line-up below:
