The Sloane Club has announced a major refurbishment project is underway that's projected to cost £20 million. The revamp will include a total renovation of the interiors, as well as creating multiple new restaurants and bars, a roof terrace, lounge areas, private events spaces and a state-of-the-art fitness and wellness facility.
Under the direction of renowned designers Russell Sage Studio, who were also responsible for the recent relaunch of The Goring, The Sloane Club’s interior design will pay homage to the club’s origins and story. For example, The Demob Bar will feature 1920s-inspired decor such as tented ceilings and pendant lights, to reflect the club’s inception in 1922.
Private events will form a core pillar of The Sloane Club’s offering, with guests able to book everything from intimate dinners to board meetings, client pitches and more major celebrations in its newly designed rooms.
It’s also set to relaunch its entire food and beverage offering with two new restaurants, a bar (The Demob Bar) and an all-season roof terrace.
Helena’s, named after Princess Helena (the founder of the Ex-Service Women’s Club which later became The Sloane Club) will serve a relaxed all-day menu, from coffee and breakfast to dinner and cocktails. While the Venus Room will be a more formal affair serving locally sourced, seasonal dishes and an extensive wine list.
Guests will also be able to dine and drink on The Roof Terrace, an urban retreat surrounded by views of Edwardian architecture and serving an elegant Asian-style menu.
The Venus Room at The Sloane Club
With so many new openings set to take place at the Chelsea club, the work is scheduled to be completed in stages. Helena’s and The Demob Bar are set to open at the end of 2024, for example, while the Venus Room and Roof Terrace will open in spring 2025.
Neena Jivraj Stevenson, Managing Director of The Sloane Club, commented on the launch: ‘We’re delighted to have the opportunity to combine the Club’s significant history with a pioneering approach to how a community like ours, in the heart of London, can evolve; as people’s lifestyles evolve, so too do their needs and we have responded to this.
‘Following significant investment, members can belong to one space, with amazing facilities, that serves every need and here they can find a balance between work, play, rest and wellness.’
The new works are set to bring the 102-year-old club into the modern day, with a 'One Space, for the Whole Self' ethos at its core. The launch of its holistic wellness and fitness facility, plus a flexible workspace (The Study), are examples of how the club intends to broaden its appeal and reach a new demographic.
