Alan Carr to transform £3.25m Scottish castle into a luxury hotel and spa

Following his win on Celebrity Traitors, Alan Carr has taken inspiration from his time in the Scottish Highlands and purchased his very own castle. The comedian has reportedly acquired Ayton Castle for £3.25 million with plans to transform the 19th-century estate into a luxury hotel and spa.

Carr spent several weeks filming at Ardross Castle last year, during his time on Celebrity Traitors, and has since reported to be in his 'turret-era' as he takes on this ambitious new project.

The castle sits within 160 acres of land, boasting 17 bedrooms, as well as its very own miniature railway that runs through the grounds.

The purchase comes as part of a new Disney+ series, ‘Castle Man’, which will follow Carr through the entire transformation, documenting his progress as he turns the historic site into a high-end hotel and spa. The format will likely be similar to his hit BBC home renovation series which he films with co-star Amanda Holden.

The series is set to be produced by Expectation, the company behind Clarkson’s Farm.

Commenting on the purchase, Carr said: ‘Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me – I want my very own castle.

‘Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home and as I turn 50, I feel it’s my time.

‘All I want is a turret to call my own – get me over that drawbridge!’

Carr first revealed his plans earlier this month, appearing on fellow Celebrity Traitors co-star Jonathan Ross' chat show. He admitted to feeling 'lonely' ahead of his upcoming 50th birthday, and talked about creating a place where people could come and visit, filling the space with animals and turning it into a 'big old zoo'. 

He said: 'I'm 50 this year - I know I don't look it - and I just want one. I know it sounds very grand.' 

'I'm moving from where I am at the minute, I want animals there, I want a community thing.’
