The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh is another of the city's venues that adds to the magical charm, with stunning architecture, a cosy vibe, gothic edge, and an exceptional bar menu. Most people may know The Voodoo Rooms for the grand bar, but there's also a great food menu, which is served until 10pm. It's worth remembering that as a nightlife venue, The Voodoo Rooms are strictly over-18s.
The Voodoo Rooms menu goes down a treat when paired with the drinks selection, as it focuses on picky bits and small plates that are good for grazing on, but there is a solid selection of large plates, too. The small plates include chicken tacos with garlic sour cream, salt and pepper squid with lime mayo, mixed falafel and a soup of the day.
The large sticky pork is coated in a honey soy sauce and paired with pak choi and steamed rice, there's also a nourish bowl with quinoa, lentils, Mediterranean vegetables, tzatziki and tomato toast, katsu tofu, Greek style meatballs with Napoli sauce with wedges and feta. You’ll also find a Voodoo Room signature beef burger with all the trimmings and veggie lasagne, made with butternut squash, courgette and mozzarella.
Sweet treats include a chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet, sticky toffee pudding with banana and vanilla ice cream and scoops of ice cream on their own. If you just want something to nibble on with your cocktails, try the padron peppers, crispy chicken strips with a buffalo and blue cheese sauce, or loaded parmesan, garlic and rosemary butter fries.
Cocktail originals include the Subtle Words with Secret Garden apothecary rose gin, jasmine-infused Akashi-Tai junmai tokubetsu sake, verjus and tonic. The Modal Soul with grapefruit and yuzu sherbet is a big hit, as is the Beet Sabre, made with gooseberry aperitif, beet cordial, cloudy apple, Avallen calvados and lemon zest foam.
