Located in the heart of Edinburgh Old Town, The Voodoo Rooms is another of the city's top venues bringing stunning architecture, a gothic edge, and an exceptional selection of cocktails. A well-stocked bar spans the length of the room, with circular booths and leather seating that work for a couple of drinks to a sit-down meal. The interiors are slick, black and sophisticated, with ornate golden detailing across the ceilings, and gigantic floor-to-ceiling windows that allow for plenty of light during the day.
The Voodoo Rooms menu goes down a treat when paired with the drinks selection, as it focuses on picky bits and small plates that are good for grazing on, although there is a solid selection of large plates, too. Tuck into the likes of chicken tacos with garlic sour cream, salt and pepper squid with lime mayo, or mixed falafel with garlic flatbread and tzatziki. For larger plates, try the sticky pork coated in a honey soy sauce and paired with pak choi and steamed rice, or pot for one of the nourish bowls with quinoa, lentils, Mediterranean vegetables, tzatziki and tomato toast, with the option to add falafel or spiced chicken.
Sweet treats include a chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet, sticky toffee pudding with banana and vanilla ice cream and scoops of ice cream on their own. If you just want something to nibble on with your cocktails, try the padron peppers, crispy chicken strips with a buffalo and blue cheese sauce, or loaded parmesan, garlic and rosemary butter fries.
Cocktail originals include the Subtle Words with Secret Garden apothecary rose gin, jasmine-infused Akashi-Tai junmai tokubetsu sake, verjus and tonic. The Modal Soul with grapefruit and yuzu sherbet is a big hit, as is the Beet Sabre, made with gooseberry aperitif, beet cordial, cloudy apple, Avallen calvados and lemon zest foam.
It's worth remembering that as a nightlife venue, The Voodoo Rooms are strictly over-18s.
