Although only a 30 minute train ride into central London, Barnes has all the vibe of a country village and boasts a wonderful choice of restaurants. Perched along the South West bank of the River Thames, this leafy London suburb boasts some pretty high profile residents including politicians and actors yet boasts a real sense of community at the same time. The London Wetlands Centre is probably the most well- known landmark in Barnes but music fans will know it better for The Olympic Sound Studios (where artists such as Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones have recorded), as well as being the place where T-Rex singer Marc Bolan died in a car crash. As far as eating out in Barnes is concerned, there are numerous fantastic cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from in Barnes village or along the riverside. Enjoy the excellent choice of pubs where delicious food is served to a mostly local crowd or fine dine in one of Barnes’ more upmarket restaurants. There really is something for everyone in Barnes, where it’s easy to forget you are still in London.
