Sitting beneath a curved Perspex roof, Jago's snazzy, catwalk-style interior adds some flair to a concrete edifice with its funky chairs and bright orange woodwork cleverly fashioned into bench seating. There's a dynamic, casual feel that chimes well with the zesty pan-European food on offer. Nibbles of bresaola, boquerones and sweet-pickled guindilla chillis give way to marinated aubergines with yoghurt and mint, grilled octopus with oregano and caperberries or plates of onglet steak with smoked almond butter. Desserts, such as caramel semifreddo with crumble and blackcurrant, end proceedings on a high, although cheeses from Androuët in Spitalfields make an equally pleasurable accompaniment to the European wine list. In all, we'd say Jago is a welcome, flavour-packed addition to the East End scene – with the bonus of breakfast and top-value set lunches (£12/15 for two/three courses).
