Tucked away in the heart of Old Amersham, Bistro Twelve Twenty is one of the Chilterns' most loveable dining destinations. Sitting on one of the most picturesque streets in Buckinghamshire - lined with historic half-timbered buildings and Georgian façades dating back centuries - this intimate bistro is perfectly placed for exploring everything this gorgeous market town has to offer, from the 17th-century Market Hall to the winding trails of the Chilterns National Landscape just minutes away.
Created by chef Mark and sous chef Iz, Bistro Twelve Twenty was born from a simple but brilliant idea: to deliver fine dining quality in an intimate, relaxed environment, made with care and good humour. The cosy interior has a contemporary classic French bistro feel - warm, welcoming and just the right size to feel like a proper neighbourhood gem.
The menu champions a sharing plates concept, with a constantly evolving selection of small dishes built around locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Guests can expect the likes of crispy buttermilk fried chicken with pomme puree and coq au vin sauce, alongside charred broccoli in a fragrant Thai green curry sauce. Pork belly, bavette steak, and beautifully executed vegan and vegetarian options sit happily side by side, with the menu typically offering a thoughtful mix of meat and plant-based dishes. The idea is to order two or three plates per person and share your way through. Don't miss the desserts either; the chocolate orange mousse has become a firm local favourite.
Those visiting on a Sunday can enjoy Bistro Twelve Twenty’s signature roast, putting a bit of a twist on the classic offering. Delve into char siu pork belly with apple sauce, beef adobo with Yorkshire pudding and horseradish cream, or buttermilk fried chicken and pomme puree, all served with garlic roasties, BBQ carrots and greens with rose jam.
Completing the experience is the carefully curated and constantly rotating wine and cocktail list, presented with knowledgeable yet relaxed service.
