Updated on 25 October 2023

This leafy suburb has become increasingly popular over the years, with everyone from young professionals and families to big City earners migrating to live in this desirable side of town. Where once it was overshadowed by high-flying Fulham up the road, Putney is now a sought-after destination in its own right - and it’s not hard to see why. Boasting excellent transport links and a plethora of parks and green spaces, this picturesque area feels worlds away from central London, despite being a 15-minute train ride from Waterloo. Plus, with the River Thames flowing through the centre of town, this south west spot is just as appealing for a day trip as it is to those looking to settle down more permanently.

As a result, Putney has had to adapt to a throng of hungry new visitors. These days, you can find a coffee shop on nearly every corner, along with plenty of proper pubs serving both fantastic food and unrivalled views of the river. While most of Putney’s best restaurants revolve around the main high street and the Lower Richmond Road, you’ll also find a couple of exciting spots dotted further afield, many of which are independent places which represent the beating heart of the area.

So, whether you’re on the hunt for a trendy brunch spot or just a place for a pint in the sun, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for right here. We do recommend booking in advance though. Come the weekend, you’ll often find many of its most popular places are packed to the rafters with queues out the door. In the unlikely event that you don't find what you're looking for, discover plenty more restaurants in Putney suited to every occasion.
