SquareMeal Review of
St Pancras Tea Salon at Fortnum & Mason
They used to say that you knew when one had tea at Fortnum’s, one had finally ‘made it’, but these days one doesn’t have to make quite the same effort. The outpost of Fortnum and Mason at St Pancras allows visitors from across the water to get a taste for proper British fare without having to travel more than 100 yards from their international seats. There’s more to offer than just Afternoon Tea too – diners can tuck in to the likes of crumpets, porridge or eggs benedict at breakfast, Welsh rarebit or fish pie for lunch or supper, or simply have a plate of classic smoked fish, cheese or charcuterie. And these days, the management doesn’t insist that to experience it you should be travelling first class – in fact, it doesn't insist that you travel at all. Customers have been known to drop in from local offices or arrange to meet friends for a thoroughly classy British moment.
