Squaremeal Review of Le Pont de la Tour Bar & Grill ?

The newly refurbished bar at this iconic restaurant is darker and more atmospheric in its new attire. Green art deco furniture gives way to a seductive, heated terrace outside, where – in accordance with the Franglais accent of the whole place – cocktails celebrate the very best of England and France. To eat, there’s a menu of nibbles and sharing plates – if a Nicoise Pan Bagnat with warm goats’ cheese and vegetables doesn’t please, perhaps roast quail with spring onion, chilli and lime will suffice. Come the weekend, expect live music with civilized acoustic sets of classic tunes and jazzy contemporary tracks. This is one for the sophisticats.

Raw lamb and soggy salty profiteroles

Apr 2013

Our party of four ate here last night (a Friday night) and we were all looking forward to it. We dine out often and have expectations of service and food quality that are reasonable and balanced. This was a premium venue and so we expected a high standard of food and also service. We realised that it was a bar and grill, so we weren't expecting restaurant level service either. Unfortunately, the service was more provincial bistro than London restaurant. The most popular wine on the menu was out...

Luxury Columnist :: Butler’s Wharf & Le Pont de la Tour

Butler’s Wharf is one of the most atmospheric places in London and a great place to go for a stroll, before enjoying a meal in one of the restaurants or popping into the Design Museum.

The name of Butler’s Wharf comes from the largest riverside warehouse in the area, and this part of London is also known as Shad Thames. No one knows exactly where that name comes from but it is thought to derive from St John at James, after a church that stood nearby.

SilverSpoon London :: A Room with a View at Le Pont De La Tour - SilverSpoon London

There’s always something a bit risky about an old classic having a revamp but I was definitely intrigued to check out the new look and menu at Le Pont de la Tour. The restaurant has had a prime spot by the river for years but in the last month it has been fully refurbished with art deco green leather banquettes…

Cooksister :: Le Pont de la Tour

In my previous post, I spoke about the power of habit, about how we repeat certain behaviours over and over without even noticing that we are doing it, and before we know it, a habit is formed. But sometimes, just as inconspicuously, we can slip out of a long-held habit and later have no recollection of why we stopped doing whatever it was that we habitually did. Back when I was at my previous job, I had two lovely colleagues with whom I loved going to dinner. All three of us had Champagne tastes and lemonade budgets and so we became quite creative in ferreting out London’s best value dinner deals. But when we discovered...
