Babaji Bayswater

Babaji Pide Turkish restaurant Alan Yau Shaftesbury Avenue London

Squaremeal Review of Babaji Bayswater ?

The founder of Wagamama, Busuba Eathai and Hakkasan now has this second site for his Turkish pizza concept, Babaji. Alan Yau put the spotlight on traditional 'pide' (boat-shaped pizzas) when he opened the first Babaji on Shaftesbury Avenue in late 2014, inspired by his Turkish wife. For us, the chargrilled courgette, tomato, walnut and goats' cheese pide and the külbasti (grilled lamb, tomato sauce, yoghurt and flatbread) are the stars of the show at the original, alongside the must-try 'kagit helva' wafer and ice-cream sandwiches. The ambition for Babaji is reportedly Pizza Express-style UK domination, so success here could kick off aggressive expansion.
