This relaxed all-day brasserie sits on the grounds of The Grove, serving up British classics alongside a whole host of European favourites. Set within the estate’s renovated stables, the restaurant overlooks beautiful grounds and is open to everyone. Whether it’s breakfast on the sunny terrace, Sunday roasts in the dining room, or quick comforting bites at the bar, The Stables prides itself on quality above all, complete with service to match.
Interiors nod to the building’s past life as a stable block, featuring exposed wooden beams, high ceilings, and a bar framed by stable doors now painted in a convivial light blue. Wooden pillars and subdivided spaces add a sense of cosiness, while smart leather banquettes add a little more finesse. Along one side is an open kitchen, allowing guests a sightline towards the food preparation process.
The Stables menu centres on brasserie and bistro classics, kicking off with starters like Cornish mussels in a rich bouillabaisse, Scottish scallops with parsnip puree and pancetta, and twice-baked three cheese soufflé alongside Herefordshire beef carpaccio and endive and blue cheese salads.
To follow, choose from mains like cider battered cod and chips, Ashridge venison, or pumpkin and sage ravioli. Od, look to signature grill items, which span from British grass-fed aged sirloin or rump steak, to whole grilled lemon sole meuniere. Burgers are also a fan favourite, including a crispy chicken burger and the signature smashed beef burger with smoked cheese. As for desserts, The Stables menu offers up creme brulee, Bramley apple and cinnamon crumble, and sticky toffee pudding.
Sunday roasts and kids' menus are also available, as is breakfast during the week. If you do come for breakfast, you’ll find all the classics, from breakfast baps and full English fry-ups (including a vegan version) to healthy fruit plates and organic poached pear porridge.
