Hawksmoor might be best known for its high-grade steaks, but anyone truly loyal to the brand will know that its drinks offering is one to be rivalled, too. Shifting the focus over to the latter, the famed steakhouse has opened an ambitious bar concept – The Lowback – designed to bring together all the elements of a Hawksmoor bar (the cocktails, food, décor and atmosphere) under one roof. Oh, and it's located on a floating pavilion...
These guys aren’t without a sense of humour, naming the bar after a vehicle that helps to guide small boats - to quite literally, push the boat out. This drinks-focused venture can be seen as an embodiment of the sentiment, with a huge nine-metre-long bar, dark green marble flooring, velvet booth seating and blue bar stools providing a luxurious, yet laid-back, setting in which to eat and drink.
The Lowback is first and foremost a bar which is why it’s created an exclusive cocktail list unlike anything you’ll see in the restaurants. The menu is divided into various sections, from light and refreshing drinks under the subheading Riviera, to iconic big-hitters under the title Landmarks. Martinis, Champagne cocktails and more indulgent ‘Sundowners’ are all on offer, too.
Meanwhile, the wine list spans a concise selection of white, red and orange wines, plus sake and fizz. The food menu features a ton of small sharing plates for grazing and, yes, you can still get your Hawksmoor steak fix, too. Kick off with bone marrow oysters and langoustine scampi with tartare sauce, before tucking into your choice of dry-aged steak (rump, sirloin, fillet, rib-eye) cooked over charcoal. Burgers and sandwiches are also available, as well as a small list of sides. Finish your meal with one of a handful of desserts including its classic sticky toffee pudding.
