Following its much-publicised re-launch, London’s iconic Café Royal is back with a brand new look, three eateries and two bars. What was briefly the Ten Room Lounge has been re-branded and restyled as an elegant all-day restaurant, with a please-all repertoire taking in crab bisque, omelettes, pastas, club sandwiches, burgers and grills, plus desserts such as brown sugar tart with salted caramel. Executive chef Andrew Turner also oversees more ambitious lunch and dinner menus featuring upscale dishes ranging from scallop ceviche with avocado, lime and hazelnuts to halibut fillet with cucumber and mushroom broth or salt-cured shoulder and grilled cutlet of lamb with sweetbreads, onions, Paris mushrooms and thyme. Plats du jour keep it traditional (think calf’s liver lyonnaise), and afternoon tea is worth a shout.
