Although most famous for its production of red wine, Bordeaux’s more refreshing offerings are not to be underestimated. They are unexpected, high-quality, diverse blends that are sure to surprise. With longer, brighter and warmer days on the horizon, now is the perfect time to explore the crisp whites, fruity rosés and fresh sparkling Crémants of Bordeaux.

From seafood, salads and chicken, to creamy pasta dishes, cheese and Asian fusion, these wines can stand up to big, bold flavours. They're also delicious in summer cocktails, and can be paired with a range of unexpected dishes to suit various occasions.

Dry whites steeped in history

Bordeaux has always produced white wines, mostly made with Sauvignon Blanc grapes, and according to historical sources, Sauvignon Blanc is said to have originated in Bordeaux. Today, 1,600 male and female winemakers, who mostly run small estates, continue the thousand-year-old tradition of white wines in Bordeaux. From lively and fruity to generous and structured, there is a dry white to suit every taste and occasion.
Pair with: Oysters, fish carpaccio, tartare, salad and tomato risotto.

The rosé style

Not only are Bordeaux’s winegrowers full of history and expertise, they are also full of new ideas. And in recent years, spear-headed by an energetic and enthusiastic new generation of winemakers, Bordeaux rosés have experienced a revival. Light, lively, fruity and elegant, they will make your taste buds bloom just in time for summer. Whether it’s to end the day on a relaxing note or to enjoy as an aperitif or along with dessert, a glass of Bordeaux rosé is the perfect accompaniment for those warm, languid days!

A sparkling superstar

While people are mostly familiar with the region’s still wines, winemakers in Bordeaux have been making sparkling wines since the 18th century. However, Crémant de Bordeaux did not become an official appellation until 1990, and now encompasses more than 340 producers. With its delicate bubbles and full-on freshness, Crémant de Bordeaux white or even rosé is the perfect accompaniment for get-togethers with friends, whether it’s a picnic in the park, an al fresco dinner or even a cocktail party.
Pair with: Strawberry parfait, lemon tart, charcuterie, cured meats and nibbles.
