Over the last 20 years, the Boglione family has transformed Petersham Nurseries into an award-winning Italian dining destination, nursery, and all-around magical place to visit. The restaurant earned a Michelin Green Star in 2021, thanks to an ethos that puts organic gardening and ethical sourcing in the spotlight, often incorporating produce from the family’s Haye Farm in Devon.
Set beneath a canopy of bougainvillaea, vines, and jasmine, with year-round blooms and strings of fairy lights, Petersham Nurseries might just be the most idyllic restaurant in London. Dining in the greenhouse is like sitting in a rustic Italian garden, complete with cushioned garden chairs and wooden tables laden with fresh-cut flowers.
Menus at the Petersham Nurseries Restaurant offer a choice of two, three, or four courses. Start with charcuterie boards from the Boglione family farm and freshly baked focaccia with Zisola olive oil, before heading on to appetisers like artichoke fritti with lemon and parsley mayo. All dishes change with the seasons, but to give an indication of what to expect, starters have previously included burrata di Putignano with roasted radicchio tardivo, taggiasca olives, and pine nuts; Scottish red langoustine risotto; and beetroot carpaccio with goat’s curd and pecan nuts.
Main courses, meanwhile, might include brill on the bone with beurre noisette, capers, chilli, and parsley; roasted and pickled winter pumpkin with toasted nuts and harissa; and Haye Farm beef sirloin with celeriac puree, charred radicchio, and blackberry jus. You’ll also find side dishes like roasted potatoes with dill and chives, and a Haye Farm garden salad. As for desserts, expect a classic marsala tiramisu, mandarin tarts with crème fraîche, a trio of ice creams, and a cheese selection served with rosemary crackers and honey from Petersham Nurseries’ hives.
