When it comes to deciding a wedding venue, couples usually have to choose between a city or country location - but with Petersham Nurseries, a Green Michelin Star greenhouse restaurant in London's Richmond, you can have both. Nestled in leafy Richmond, a short walk from the centre, Petersham Nurseries has become a local institution, starting as a family-founded garden nursery 20 years ago, and now a fine-dining restaurant in a magical setting.
It includes a selection of enchanting greenhouse spaces and restaurants, decorated with seasonal flowers and weaving vines, glowing with twinkling fairylights and serving only the best, locally-sourced food. If that sounds like your kind of wedding reception - something intimate, chic and unique - then you're in luck.
Across the site, the Petersham Nurseries can cater for a varied mix of party sizes and styles. There's The Restaurant with space for between 60 and 120 people, followed by the Central Greenhouse with capacity for 30 to 70 people. The Garden Greenhouse is ideal for smaller gatherings with seating for between 20 and 45 people, but if you're planning on celebrating with an even more intimate group, the team can also suggest the private dining room which is perfect for 20 guests or less.
All catering is organised in house. For your wedding, the head chef will put together a seasonal menu which spans canapes, starters, mains and desserts, to be enjoyed by the entire party. Previous examples have included starters such as torched apricot with whipped ricotta, honey, almonds and Nasturtium and mains such as grilled monkfish with Puttanesca tomatoes, fennel and samphire, and wine selected from the sommelier.
The Petersham Nurseries pastry team is also skilled at crafting wedding cakes and can create a stunning chocolate sponge topped with chocolate ganache cake, or classic Victoria sponge with Italian meringue icing and seasonal compote, decorated with seasonal British flowers for you, if of interest.
With an in-house floristry service, the team also work with all couples on creating floral displays for their special day including table settings, button holes and bridal bouquet. Think wild and dramatic arrangements that take advantage of the seasonal British blooms, verdant foliage and fragrant herbs, all found on site.
