Rick Stein celebrates 50th anniversary by bringing back 1975 menu prices

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of his legendary Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, chef Rick Stein has announced a 'Rolled Back and Retro Menu' featuring classic seafood dishes at their original 1975 prices.

For just four days, from 6-9 February, the limited-time lunch menu will be available at his flagship restaurant in Padstow, along with the group's sites in Barnes, Winchester, Sandbanks and Marlborough, with bookings set to go live on Friday 24 January at 10am.

Dishes are set to include shellfish soup (50p), chilled melon (30p), and brill, salmon and sorrel terrine (55p) to start, followed by grilled lobster (for just £2.80), seafood thermidor (£2.20) or Cornish bouillabaisse (£2.60) for mains. Desserts are classically 70s, with treacle tart and cream (35p), and raspberry bavarois (30p) rounding out the meal. This three-course menu will set diners back just a few quid.

While places will be extremely limited, the group has also launched a campaign allowing the public to ‘nominate someone special' to enjoy this reduced-price menu. This is available for anyone, ‘whether they’re a seafood lover, a cherished friend, or someone who deserves recognition,’ with certain tables reserved each day for winning nominees.

This is just the start of the celebration, with a one-night-only Supper Club which will be taking place later in the month. Reflecting on his career, Stein commented: 'It’s amazing to think that The Seafood Restaurant has been open for 50 years. This is a pretty big deal as far as restaurants are concerned and there are going to be lots of celebrations throughout 2025. Including me, returning to my roots as a DJ – back on the Purple Tiger decks for one night only.'

Co-founder Jill Stein, also commented: ‘Little did Rick and I imagine when we opened our doors in 1975 that we would still be here 50 years later, celebrating half a century of the iconic Seafood Restaurant.’

This announcement follows in the footsteps of beloved London restaurant, St John, which offered a similar deal last summer, celebrating 30 years since the site opened its doors, and returning to the original pricing of 1994.

In other news, the group has officially announced its first restaurant in central London.
