English celebrity chef and restaurateur, Rick Stein, is the brains behind his eponymous Winchester restaurant. The restaurant has been open since 2014, and was the chain's first to open outside of Cornwall. Despite its location, this Hampshire restaurant still serves the very best of Cornish seafood, with catches that are delivered daily and overseen by head chef, Chris. Although the restaurant provides a fine, seafood experience, you can pop in for anything from breakfast and a rejuvenating coffee, through to evening nibbles with a glass of wine.
The snacks include a mix of seafood, meat and veggie options. Enjoy tempura oysters with a soy and chilli dipping sauce, halloumi saganaki with honey and black sesame seeds, or the finest jamon iberico. Starters include piri piri sardines with tomato, onion and kalamata olives, and handpicked crab linguine, moules mariniere with shallots, butter and white wine, and baked Cornish scallops with chorizo and breadcrumb topping.
For this first course, there is not one dish that focuses on finds outside of the sea. Enjoy a classic battered cod with thick cut chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce, and feed another in doing so. With every order of fish and chips, one other will be donated to a school meal of a child in poverty. Grilled fillets of sea bream with fennel and Pernod mayonnaise, Barry Humphries' salmon fishcakes and shellfish ragout all feature, along with an Indonesian seafood curry, packed full of cod, sea bass and prawns, with a green bean and coconut salad, and pilau rice.
For dessert, expect to find classic favourites like sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream, and a creamy creme brulee, peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake and selection of ice creams and sorbets.
