Jason Atherton is to take on the ex-Viajante space in Bethnal Green’s Town Hall Hotel. The news
comes two weeks after it was announced that chef Nuno Mendes was to leave the hotel and that Michelin-starred restaurant
Viajante was to close.
The new restaurant will be backed by restaurateur and celebrity chef Jason Atherton along with Town Hall Hotel owner Peng Loh, while the kitchen will be headed up by Lee Westcott, who is executive
chef of two of Atherton’s restaurants in Hong Kong and previously worked for Tom Aikens.
Viajante restaurant and the adjoining bar will close at the end of the month, with details of opening dates and menus to be revealed in March.
Lee’s credentials include stints at three-Michelin-star Per Se in New York, alongside René Redzepi, and with Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s. He worked at recently closed Restaurant Tom Aikens in Chelsea for four years. This, currently unnamed, restaurant will be his first.
Westcott will also oversee Corner Room restaurant in the hotel which was previously run by Mendes. Mendes will
open his new Marylebone restaurant, Chiltern Firehouse, this Friday.
