D&D London set to open rooftop restaurant in Birmingham’s tallest office building

Restaurant group D&D London is set to open its first Birmingham outpost, found at the top of city’s tallest office building.

The as-yet-unnamed restaurant will sit at the top of 104 Colmore Row, with the 6,500 square foot space stretching across the building’s 23rd and 24th floors.

The restaurant, accessed via a dedicated lift, will be a double-height space with floor-to-ceiling glass windows that allow for panoramic views across Birmingham. The restaurant group has signed a 25-year lease with Sterling Property Ventures and as part of the deal will also operate a cocktail bar and café on the ground floor. This space will feature an outdoor terrace where guests can drink and dine alfresco, although it is not yet known what kind of food either the ground-floor or rooftop spaces will serve.

104 Colmore Row is currently the tallest new building under construction outside of London, with architects Doone Silver Kerr in charge of the building’s design.

Speaking about the plans, D&D London’s chairman and chief executive Des Gunewardena said: “We have been looking to open a restaurant in Birmingham for some time now, just waiting to find the right site. With its central location and unrivalled rooftop views, 103 Colmore Row provides us with a fabulous opportunity to join the city’s thriving restaurant scene.”

D&D London currently operates 40 restaurants, the majority of which are in the capital and include the likes of Coq d’Argent, German Gymnasium and recently opened 14 Hills. However, the group does have outposts in other cities and internationally, including sites in Leeds, Manchester, Paris, Tokyo and New York.

104 Colmore Row is expected to open in autumn 2021, with the restaurant opening at a later date.
