SquareMeal Review of L'Opera of Brompton

With its rococo-style ceiling fresco, ornate mirrors, Persian rugs and swathes of satin, this blinged-up, all-day deli and café feels like a little piece of Harrods that flew the nest. However, the owner knows his target market – high-rolling Arabs use this place as a second home during their sojourns in the UK. The food is mostly laid out on counter displays – so expect anything from spelt pastas, chicken schnitzel sandwiches, stuffed vine leaves and colourful salads (perhaps white cabbage, apple and pomegranate) to pots of Iranian caviar, followed by specially prepared coffee, Indian chai and sticky pastries. Meanwhile, freshly squeezed juices and chintzy displays of home-baked cakes lure in cosmopolitan locals and tourists of more modest means. A secluded, crimson-velvet extension is ideal for private functions, and L’Opera naturally does a roaring takeaway trade too.
