It's hard to imagine those dark Daiquiri-deprived days pre-LAB (aka the London Academy of Bartenders) – the place where many of the current scene's luminaries discovered a hundred ways with Frangelico, Fernet and Falernum. Now the undisputed cocktail capital of the world, London may be awash with edgier, swankier lounges, but – more than two decades down the line – this 70s disco-inspired hole-up is still worth checking out for its adventurous list. Names such as Peanut Colada, Devil's Advocaat, Jerk Sparrow or Jack and the Beefstock speak for themselves, while others including Dandy and Charlie Chaplin date back to less egalitarian days when cocktails were the preserve of the gilded few at the likes of The Savoy and The Ritz. LAB also has things covered food-wise with a line-up of Japanese gyoza, teriyaki, sushi and the like.
