When you come across a restaurant housed inside 'Chelsea Funhouse', you expect a certain level of revelry. Jolie delivers that in spades, with a menu of reimagined French plates, as well as wines, cocktails, a brunch menu and a huge list of espresso martinis.
The interior is plush and colourful - a mixture of deep royal blue walls and mustard yellow sofas, with natural wood floors and pops of colour from furnishings and patterned rugs. Dried flower installations hang from the high ceilings, and chefs busy themselves in an open kitchen.
The menu has a sense of playfulness, reinventing dishes and flavour combinations and presenting them in a fun way. The 'Beefcase' is the perfect example of this - a smoked sirloin or Chateaubriand, serve with Roquefort potato pave, roscoff shallots and watercress
salad in a briefcase, which opens with a puff of smoke. The menu also features pan-seared Orkney scallops with celeriac puree, barbecue cauliflower with spring onion and lemon mayonnaise, and smoked and roasted duck breast with Lyonnais potatoes. Plates are all designed to be shared between two or three people, so big groups can order a wide variety of dishes and get a taste of the whole menu.
Drinks are a big part of the menu at Jolie - cocktails are a speciality, perhaps not surprising given the Chelsea location. Try the Honfleur - a sour cocktail with Calvados, peach and grapefruit and apple powder sherbet, or the gin and absinthe-based St Tropez.
Jolie also boasts a significant collection of espresso martinis, all with slightly different vibes - there's the Indian Summer for example, made with rum, apricot and mango, or the Irish Backstop, made with Irish whiskey and vegan cream.
