Grand restaurant hotels there are aplenty in London, but to have a good in-house Italian is more unusual. Italian-born Arturo Granato heads up the kitchen at 39 Grosvenor Square and has brought flavours of the Amalfi coast with him. Expect careful cooking, high-end ingredients and beautiful presentation, with the likes of smoked duck breast with foie gras, liquorice and pomegranate or lobster risotto with buffalo mozzarella, Collonnata lardo and candied lemon decorating the menu. Finish with a sophisticated take on a tiramisu or a limoncello and chocolate concoction. Given that the restaurant is housed in a Mayfair hotel, the wine list is strong, but be wary of becoming too involved if you’re on a budget.
