About

Located just off Grosvenor Square (entrance on South Audley Street) in the heart of Mayfair, 34 has become a modern-day classic since it opened in November 2011. Burnt orange banquettes, oak parquet and a colourful contemporary art collection give the room a warm and inviting look, highlighted by the bespoke charcoal grill in the open kitchen. The grill, also known as a parrilla and fed by natural fuels, was custom-made and imported from Argentina. Head Chef, Paul Brown has developed an eclectic menu, using the grill not only for beef, but also for seasonal game, fish and shellfish. The beef served at 34 includes Scottish dry-aged grass-fed, Australian Wagyu, and US prime corn-fed from Creekstone Farm. “Lobster mac” (lobster macaroni) is a perennial favourite, and there is a wide variety of salads and lighter dishes for the less carnivorous diners. Designer Martin Brudnizki has taken inspiration from English, Edwardian and Art Deco styles.

Warning for couples considering 34 Mayfair for a wedding reception

I wanted to share our experience for any couples considering 34 Mayfair for a wedding or private event.

We booked 34 Mayfair for our wedding reception in May 2026 and were forced to move venue two weeks before the date because professional trust had completely broken down.

Throughout the planning process, we experienced staff turnover, poor continuity, contradictory information, and confusion around key points including guest capacity, drink inclusions, fees, and logistics.

The most serious issue came when senior management became involved. Instead of resolving the situation, the Commercial Director informed us that the venue did not feel comfortable proceeding and wanted to unilaterally cancel/refund our booking 14 days before the wedding.

When we rejected unilateral cancellation of a signed agreement, 34 Mayfair offered to proceed only under new last-minute conditions, including mandatory upfront payment of discretionary service charge.

We expressly pointed out that this was not required under the signed contract. Despite this, senior management later stated in writing that if the service charge was prepaid, service would be “assured at 150%”, but that without this non-contractual prepayment, the same level of service “could not be guaranteed under the same conditions”.

We could not risk entering our wedding day wondering whether our guests’ experience would depend on accepting altered terms outside the signed agreement.

Our deposit was refunded, and thankfully our replacement venue delivered beautifully. But the stress and disruption caused two weeks before the wedding were significant.

We are reporting this to Trading Standards and preparing formal legal action.

I strongly advise couples to avoid 34 Mayfair for any wedding or high-stakes private event where reliability and contract integrity are essential.
