This sardine-can of a bar is as close as it gets to the 1950s, the decade when a nascent rock & roll industry was centred on Tin Pan Alley – as Denmark Street is still known (with stores selling everything from vintage Fenders to plastic plectrums). Every evening, four featured live acts perform anything from punky garage thrash or electro-pop to folk. A small café operates from 11am daily & there’s draught Asahi, Guinness, bottled lagers & spirits from £3. A snooker table & a jukebox raise the Billy Fury allure of the place. Although you’ll have to pay a £5 cover charge, a one-off membership card (available for a small fee) guarantees free entry at peak hours.
