Vini Italiani

72 Old Brompton Road , London, SW7 3LQ

SquareMeal Review of Vini Italiani

With Italians now liberally distributed across SW7, local expats (and fans of their homeland’s best DOPs) will be thrilled by the arrival of this most persuasive of ambassadors – a chic specialist wine bar and boutique off-licence. On offer is a stonking stock of over 600 directly sourced tipples, with many offered by the glass from the in-house Enomatic system: friendly staff are on hand to nudge you towards delicious discoveries such as Nero di Troia Rosato (a sensational summer rosé) or Sori San Martino Dogliani Superiore (a full-bodied Piedmont ruby red with hints of almond and cherry). To eat, order mixed taglieri – food platters loaded with regional cheeses and cold cuts ranging from Ubriaco Prosecco (‘drunk’ cheese) and smoked Sicilian scamorza to top-notch bresaola and castelspeck (a lean smoked ham from the Alto Adige traditionally flavoured with spices and juniper).

When I miss my favourite Italian wine while in London, Vini Italiani is the place to go. Authentic and cosy place to meet your friends and relax, sipping Prosecco or a glass of Vermentino matched by Pecorino from the same beautiful island of Sardegna.
