SquareMeal Review of MEATmarket

Bronze Award

Inspired by the barnstorming success of Meatliquor, street kings Yianni Papoutsis and Scott Collins arrived in Covent Garden with an outlet on the narrow balcony of the Jubilee Market Hall. Meatmarket doesn’t take bookings, so expect queues; once you’re in, simply check the menu board, order at the till and wait for your name to be called. The food arrives wrapped in greaseproof paper on metal trays: think sloppy, southern-style burgers and huge hot dogs with fries, as well as addictive stuffed jalapeños (‘poppaz’). The star performer is the legendary Dead Hippie burger, with its two mustard-fried beef patties, gooey cheese, onions and trademark sauce, though some may prefer the dirty chicken cheeseburger (which does what it says on the tin) or buffalo wings with blue cheese dip. To drink, a ‘hard’ milkshake laced with bourbon and maple syrup offers sweet consolation.

Best burgers in town plus immense loaded fries - drip down your arm, gorgeous food and great beer too! Love the location, decor is fittingly grungy and flirty, staff are so laid back they would serve you from a hammock if they could.
