The Ship

Squaremeal Review of The Ship ?

In the shadow of Wandsworth's upscale riverfront developments, The Ship is a sweet survivor from days gone by. Once a waterman's inn, it's now a quirky alfresco joy: a rambling Victorian conservatory packed with bric-a-brac opens out onto rose-lined patios & decking overlooking the Thames. Food is also a major draw, & the full restaurant menu (available throughout) takes the modern British route with a few global detours. Here you might find red mullet, spinach & chervil tart, lamb hotpot with buttered kurly kale or braised pork belly with juniper berries alongside gremolata-crusted seafood cassoulet, slow-braised lamb shank with polenta & – to finish – Valrhona chocolate tart with almond truffles. To drink, Young's house ales join chilled Erdinger Weissbier & some trendy wines. All-day barbecues are a summertime treat & the Doolali beach-shack cocktail bar is pitched up in the grounds.
