Images of Che Guevara preside over this buzzing bar, slap bang in the middle of Camden’s Stables market – though there’s not much revolutionary about the crowd of tourists and just-legal-age
drinkers. They get their kicks from a huge, sub-£7 cocktail list that boasts a medley of mojitos as well as Che’s Revolution (rum, maple syrup and pineapple juice) and The Burning Red (spiced
rum, chilli, Chambord and vanilla). Cuba is not exactly famed for its cuisine, but plates of chilli-beef quesadillas, and baked salmon with mango salsa and potato salad, provide good, hearty
sustenance. Alfresco tables are a boon in summer.
Cuban food gets a pretty bad press if you ask me. It’s often described as bland, starchy and unexciting. So I was intrigued to see how The Cuban bar and restaurant fared with their island cuisine.I was tying in my trip with a long over-due catch up with some friends who work in Camden. So a hop over to the cobbles of Stables Market was very handy for them – and an excuse for me to travel further north of the river than the West End, which I don’t do often enough...
