SquareMeal Review of Yogi's

Standing proudly on a residential corner between West Brompton and Chelsea, Yogi’s is a neighbourhood Asian fusion restaurant aiming to shake up the dining offering in this unsuspecting part of town. It certainly makes a statement. Interiors fall into the realm of botanical glam, with an artificial foliage installation, hanging woven lampshades and a backlit gold bar, that pitches it somewhere between restaurant and party venue. Still, the space possesses a cosiness thanks to ambient lighting, and tables fill up quickly throughout the evening.

Yogi's has taken the term ‘fusion’ and run with it. Tandoori dishes rub shoulders with the likes of truffle mash and a perplexing cheese board, but if you order with intent, there’s some great cooking on offer here. We stick to the Indian-inspired section and discover plenty of gems. Pan-fried paneer in a mild tomato and fenugreek sauce, fragrant prawn biryani, and homemade naans smattered with pureed dates and crushed pistachios. Tandoor dishes arrive on sizzling hot plates, including a juicy Malai chicken tikka number marinated in a mild yoghurt and cardamom. Theatrical embellishments like this go a long way, and we can see it becoming a popular local spot for special occasions and birthdays.

Part of that is because Yogi's aims to cater for photo-hungry diners. A chicken and mango salad arrived bejewelled with pink pomegranate seeds, while our molten-centred chocolate fondant was treated to a gentle dusting of freeze-dried raspberries.

The cocktail list is given the same Instagrammable treatment as the food, featuring a vibrant collection of twists-on-classics replete with ostentatious garnishes and edible flowers. We were also made to feel extremely welcome by bubbly and enthusiastic staff, who can confidently recommend dishes for those who find the eclectic menu tricky to navigate.

Yogi’s certainly gives diners something to talk about, and between its experimental dishes, friendly service and glitzy interiors, you’re sure to find something you like.

About

Step inside Yogi’s Asian fusion restaurant in Kensington, and you’ll be met with gorgeous decor, golden tones, and a sense of calm pulled straight from nature. Think earthy, immersive, and unapologetically chic. By day, Yogi’s is a sunlit sanctuary, but by night, the restaurant transforms into an intimate hideaway. Tempted? We think so.

To begin your meal, take a look at the selection of appetizers. You'll find small bowls of marinated olives and spiced mixed masala nuts, along with a basket of poppadoms, edamame beans, and bigger starter dishes. These include lobster prawn toast, achari paneer cottage cheese and lamb chops. The chef's signature mains include the luxurious, like lobster thermidor and salmon with black tiger prawns, to traditional dishes such as a ribeye steak and amritsari style fish and chips, and plenty of delicious curries and biryanis.

To plump up your meal, order a selection of breads and rice. You can choose from a date and pistachio naan, coconut and cashew fried rice, and sticky mango jasmine pilaf rice. There's a perfectly cooked dish of pink rock shrimp tempura and chicken 65 off the tandoor and grill, which are accompanied beautifully by the wilted mustard greens, truffle mash and dal makhani. With so many wonderful dishes to choose from, it would be impossible to just pick one.

Last but not least, you'll spot rice and noodle accompaniments, like the prawn and pineapple fried rice, stir fried beef and broccoli, and udon noodles. If you're sticking around for something sweet, order the gajar halwa spring roll, rich chocolate fondant, or indulgent cheese board. If it’s something light you’re looking for, choose a scoop of ice cream or sorbet – there’s coconut chocolate chip, blood orange, mango, Madagascan vanilla and dark chocolate.

A good place for a kebab and drink

The flavours are subdued too the extent that one wonders if the salt is missing. I ordered a mixed platter and although the meat was cooked nicely, it lacked taste, especially the chicken. I must say the kebabs tasted really good. I ordered butter chicken expecting his it tastes in dhabas in India but sorry to say I was disappointed- no flavour , no taste! The naan was poor quality too!
