SquareMeal Review of Sofa King Cool

If you’re a fan of stark orange, black and white decor, punctuated by screenings of classic Hollywood movies such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s , this new basement gay bar is as cool as it comes. The retro interior may seem curiously sterile, but you’ll warm to the cocktail list – a mix of martinis such as apple, lavender and porn star, alongside party-animal classics including Long Island iced tea aimed at younger cocktailistas. Lager starts at £3.50 and there are a dozen wines too – although the bar’s licence requires food to be served with liquor, apparently. No hardship, when nibbles such as marinated salmon, haloumi skewers, calamari with spicy mayo, meatballs with ‘red devil’ relish and potted crab in saffron butter are available for £4 per item. To ‘get’ the name, say the three words in rapid succession.
