Squaremeal Review of Sardo ?

At first glance, it looks like a white-clothed, wood-floored replica of countless neighbourhood trattorias, but Sardo has kept regulars returning to Grafton Way since 1998 – thanks to its authentic Sardinian menu. Long-serving it may be, but there’s no dimming of pride from the passionate owners and staff, who continue to enthuse about the crisp musica bread, the shell-like malloreddus pasta in tomato sauce, tuna bresaola, homemade ‘salsiccia sarda’ grilled to juicy perfection, and the crisp, ricotta-filled pastry parcels drizzled in honey. The menu rarely changes, but where would the holiday memories be if it did – especially with specials such as guinea fowl ragù on orecchiette, or grilled pigeon with fregola and porcini. Generous, pink-hued carpaccio is a stellar rendition worth travelling for, and wine options include London’s biggest selection of Vermentino. Next door, café-style Sardo Cucina is a hit for lunches on-the-fly.

Welcoming Sardinian restaurant

by   platinum reviewer (82)

Sep 2015

Editor's pick We often went to Sardo Canale before it closed over in Camden so it was lovely to see familiar menu items and Sardinian wines here, and this is a relaxed and welcoming place. Loved the thin crispy salty carta di musica with hints of rosemary, and cake-like focaccia breads with olive oil while we started on the wine, a deep and rich Carignano del Sulcis Riserva. Demolished the grilled vegetables to start - simple but delicious - who knew wafer thin slices of grilled celeriac could be so good? The...

Bella Sardegna

by   silver reviewer (26)

May 2015

I booked Sardo for our Anniversary meal as we had spent our honeymoon in Sardinia. I didn't know what to expect but was delighted. The food was delicious and reminded me of the type of food we had eaten in Sardinia. You would expect the menu to be fish heavy but meat plays a big part in the Sardinian cuisine. We started with traditional Sardinian flat bread and shared a deliciously soft mozzarella antipasti. Primi was a pasta risotto with asparagus and had a rich salty flavour. My husband...

Aug 2014

We went for a quiet Monday lunch ( (11th August,. 2014). It did not disappoint. The two waitresses were charming. Portions were big. I started with a crab linguine. Followed by grilled tuna. It's not often I ask for a “doggy bag”, but worth taking home. The choice of Sardinian white wines was extensive and the Vermentino Terres at £27.50 was delicious. My guest pronounced the Malloreddus starter excellent. There's little competition around Warren Street and this stands out like a beacon. Reliable...

One of the best restaurant options in this part of town (although charlotte street area with its many places is not that far away) offering high quality sardinian cuisine. For anyone not italian (and unable to understand/appreciate the suttle differences) it is an italian restaurant and you would not neccessary notice the difference. Just to be clear this is no critisism just a statement as a lot is made of them being the sardinian food place in town – the food is of very high standard and quality...

Had a 3 course meal in December 2011. Starter was Carpaccio of beef. I've had a lot of these in my time and this was one of the best. Hearty beef flavour with generous shavings of parmesan. 9/10 Main was a whole seabass baked in salt. This was cooked in the salt, presented to me at the table in the salt before the waiter then removed the salt crust leaving a perfect piece of fish below. 8/10 Pudding was the Vanilla panna cotta, which was utterly sensational and probably the best dessert I ate...

Mar 2010

Went here on the back of some rave reviews, in March 2010. Good things: good quality food; pleasant lunch-time atmosphere; great wine. Not so good things: the size of the portions was quite mean: we chose a starter of fresh anchovies. There were perhaps 4 on the plate. Yes, they were large anchovies, but anchovies are never that large, are they, so 4 of them, at a price of around £9, was a bit much. As for my main – pasta with crab – it was tasty, but it was a bit of a Spot The Crab Meat scenario...
