"We spent our honeymoon in Sardinia, and Sardo reminded us of the food we had eaten out there" writes a fan of this "neighbourhood gem", which has been flying the flag on Grafton Way since 1998. White tablecloths, arched ceilings and a stone bar create a rustic, holiday feel – so get in the mood by ordering a bottle of Sardinia's famous Vermentino white wine. For a real taste of the island, nibble on traditional crispy breads before sampling spaghetti bottarga (enriched with dried mullet roe) or char-grilled, aromatic 'salsiccia sarda'. The "rich, salty flavours" of the fregola 'pasta' with asparagus and ricotta have also been much appreciated, likewise almond tart accompanied by limoncello. The menu seldom changes, but no one minds when the food has such an authentic tang. "Bella Sardegna!" says one fan, and we heartily agree.
