Nakhon Thai Waterfront

SquareMeal Review of Nakhon Thai Waterfront

The Royal Victoria Dock outpost of Nakhon Thai (there’s another on the Isle of Dogs) is one of those ‘only in E16’ eating experiences. The carved wooden statues, birdcages & terrace planted with palms are typically Thai, while the planes from London City, the high rises all around & the gaggle of Canada geese in the water outside are pure Docklands. Bizarre juxtapositions aside, it’s a very pleasant place to enjoy decent Thai food. Chef’s specials steer diners towards seafood dishes such as lobster curry or sea bass in lime & chilli broth; elsewhere, satays, stir-fries, soups & noodles appeal to both eat-ins & take-outs. Nakhon doubles as a ‘caff’ by day, so don’t be surprised to see staff dispensing paninis & cans along with plates of pad thai.
