SquareMeal Review of
MASH London (bar)
Even if you’re not sinking your teeth into a slab of beef, MASH London (the Modern American Steakhouse...via Denmark) is a good spot for
drinkers. Bag a high stool and lock lips with well-made cocktails at its stand-alone bar, whose Yankee, art-deco hotel pose suggests the fantasy lounge Jack Nicholson’s character never found in The
Shining. Discover Gottlieb’s favourite (rye, cherry wine, maple syrup, chocolate bitters and Anchor Steam ale), try a Caracas blazer for size (Diplomatico Reserva rum, apple liqueur, Galliano,
caramelised pineapple and bitters) or enjoy MASH’s interpretation of the all-American (vodka) martini served with blue cheese-stuffed olives. The bar’s wide range of bourbons and whiskeys features
some rare and controversial tipples including the opinion-dividing Buffalo Trace Experimental Oat bourbon – so it’s tempting to linger awhile. Just remember that ‘mashed’ is not a good Mayfair
