Love India may have changed its name to Indigo, but it’s still the same old basement restaurant, complete with a turbaned gentleman of ramrod-straight military bearing who stands at the door,
ushering people inside – a sight more familiar on Brick Lane than Fulham Road. It’s worth succumbing to his invitation, as the place has a long history (it was the site of London’s first tandoori
restaurant, back in the 1950s) & it serves a pretty mean curry. Standards such as lamb rogan josh & chicken jalfrezi are bolstered by more unusual specialities including sea bass nimbuwala
(cooked in a lime, herb & coconut sauce) & Gujarati-style pumpkin. The selection of tandooris is extensive: as well as the more usual chicken, prawns & lamb, expect to see monkfish,
mushrooms & salmon.
