SquareMeal Review of
Ebury Restaurant & Wine Bar
This old-school wine bar and restaurant seems slightly incongruous amongst the dolled-up, chic modern eateries in the neighbourhood, but it’s totally at ease with itself and makes a refreshing change from the norm. Owned by Nigel and Elizabeth Windridge for over 40 years, its combination of good service and a warm welcome seems to work as well as ever, especially when it’s backed by a likeable modern European menu. Start with seared scallops, celeriac rémoulade and avruga caviar or baked tomato galette with goats’ cheese and pumpkin seeds, ahead of pesto-crusted lamb with aubergine and olive caponata or a decent, classic steak with excellent chips and béarnaise sauce. For dessert, perhaps go for passion fruit mille-feuille with raspberry coulis. The helpfully annotated global wine list isn’t huge, but it’s well priced and there’s a corkage system in place for people to bring their own.
